A perk to having your birthday at the beginning of the new year is that you get almost immediate access to the new year’s birthday gifts for members of stores like Sephora and Ulta.
Yes, happy belated birthday to me!
And maybe you’re wondering, since your birthday might not be for a while, what the birthday gifts from these stores are this year?
Don’t worry; I got you.
From Sephora we have this cute little Tarte duo of the Amazonian clay blush and Tarteist matte lip color. I was a little skeptical of the lip color, as pink isn’t my usual lip jam. But I was pleasantly surprised at how it complemented my skin tone, and it lasted all day.
The blush is the Tarte Amazonian clay blush, and it looks like it complements pretty much any skin tone. It’s more of a brown/nude pink than a bright pink, and I was a little concerned how it would look on me because I have such pale skin. But it worked out well!
And from Ulta the current birthday gift is a deluxe sample of the Porefessional face primer. I’ll be honest, I’ve only tried this once so far!
I typically throw sample-sized things in my travel makeup bag to test out next time I go out of town, and the one time I did use it I enjoyed it. I didn’t notice anything extra special about it, and my pores looked about the same, but it worked well for priming for my foundation.
Hope you enjoyed this little rundown!
Hi, everyone! In the last post, I detailed my haul from the 20% off Seohora VIB sale, which involved both an in-store trip and an online order. (Also, can I just say how awesome the new Sephora app is?!) I redeemed some of my Beauty Insider points through Sephora’s Beauty Bazaar online, and I was not disappointed—it always seems like the rewards are better online than in-store, but maybe that’s just me.
This 500-point reward I chose is the mini Urban Decay Urban Addiction eye shadow sampler palette. I didn’t really expect it to come in fancy packaging, but it came in its own pretty box just like the 500-point Make Up For Ever reward did, complete with black crinkly paper cushioning inside.
The palette itself is gorgeous—it has four different shades (Backdoor, Righteous, Backfire, and Fireball) and comes with a mini double ended brush (just like the full-sized palettes do. And though the case isn’t made of a hard plastic or metal like the Naked palettes, it does appear to be durable and well-constructed from a quality cardboard and has a mirror inside the lid..
Here are swatches of each color:
The shadows feel creamy and apply so smoothly, of course—would you expect anything less from Urban Decay? And they are so easy and fun to blend.
I used Backdoor in the crease/outer corner of my eyelid, blended it outward with Backfire, applied Fireball to the lid and blended it to the crease, and used Righteous on the brow bone. It gave a much smokier look than I anticipated, and I’m very pleased with the outcome!
Have you used the Beauty Bazaar for your Sephora rewards, or received this particular 500-point reward? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
